We have not built enough homes in this country for generations, and buying or renting a home is becoming increasingly unaffordable. We need modern, high quality homes and we need to work with both private and social housing sectors to deliver.
Eddie will work with the new West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street, to get more affordable houses built in Walsall North. Owning a home is a dream for many and Eddie supports Theresa May’s efforts to help young first-time buyers get on the housing ladder. We need to do everything we can to ensure young people can get on the housing ladder and aspire to own their own homes.
More houses need to be built but shouldn’t come at the expense of green spaces around our community. Eddie pledges to work to ensure that old, derelict, brownfield sites and empty offices are used to provide new homes.
The construction industry plays a big role in our local economy so more house building means more jobs for local people.
People living in social housing should continue to enjoy the ‘right to buy’ their own homes, whilst ensuring monies raised are reinvested into new homes for first-time buyers.
Conservative economic policies have ensured that mortgage interest rates have remained lower for longer.
We need a strong economy to deliver and must not allow Jeremy Corbyn to put Walsall’s economy at risk.
