You may have seen that the Boundary Commission published their revised proposals for parliamentary boundaries before Christmas - www.bcereviews.org.uk/
Sadly, this proposal was a huge change from the initial ‘Bloxwich and Brownhills’ seat and changed to ‘Walsall and Bloxwich’ putting Bloxwich, Blakenall and Birchills Leamore with Walsall Town Centre, Pleck, Palfrey and Paddock. The Boundary Commission also suggests that Willenhall be split and absorbed into Wolverhampton. Putting Short Heath and Willenhall North into Wolverhampton North East Constituency and Willenhall South, which includes Willenhall Town Centre, into Wolverhampton South East Constituency.
Although I understand that the Boundary Commission must periodically review constituencies, in all honesty, this new proposal for Walsall and Bloxwich came as a complete shock. When I was elected in 2017 as your MP for Walsall North, I made it my first priority to understand the different and diverse communities across the constituency, to ensure I could best represent you locally and nationally. It feels like the Boundary Commission has failed to understand the tight-knit communities of Bloxwich, Willenhall and Walsall North and has completely ignored the views raised in last year's consultation.
I want to thank everyone who made submissions to the Boundary Commission, and our local councillors who have made every effort to keep Bloxwich, Willenhall and Walsall North together. The Boundary Commission will publish their final proposal in July this year.
Now all we can do is wait.
