Eddie has written to Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, on behalf of concerned constituents about the terrible plight of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar (Burma).
Eddie wrote, “Some of my constituents have raised their serious concern at the situation in Rakhine State in Myanmar and the unacceptable persecution of the Muslim Rohingya group involving the displacement of tens of thousands of people. My constituents felt that the British Government’s response has so far not been sufficient.”
“I understand that the UK has provided over £30 million in humanitarian assistance since 2012, including a recent £8 million to address the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya refugees. I also understand that we have recently raised the situation at the United Nations Security Council. However, my constituents feel that more needs to be done to pressure the UN to respond to the atrocities that are taking place in the country.”
“Can my constituents be reassured that the British Government will continue to provide support to the Rohingya refugees and will work with the UN to take appropriate action to bring an end to the violence?”
